IN A FEW WORDS
Hike Machu Picchu. Seems like a simple goal and odds are it's been on your bucket for quite a while now but for some reason, you just haven't taken the time to do it yet. The Peru Explorer trip is perfect for those that want a unique Machu Picchu experience but are also short on time. Skip the overcrowded Inca Trail and follow the lesser known Lares Trail. This trek will take you across high altitude mountain passes and through jungles where warm hot springs await! It's been long enough and Peru is calling!

ITINERARY:
Day 1: Welcome to Peru!
Day 2: Our Journey Begins
Today we begin our journey! We’ll gain about 3600 ft in altitude today, over around six hours of walking, as we head up towards the top of the huge Andean cordillera (range) between the Sacred and Lares valleys. Along the way we’ll stop to check out a cool, little-visited ruin, and have lunch next to a waterfall, before arriving to our campsite at Cuyoc, a charming spot in a native queuña forest, with incredible views across to Salineras and Maras on the other side of the Sacred Valley.
Day 3: Hot Spring Heaven
Today starts with the final, two-hour climb, where we’re rewarded with breathtaking views of surrounding snow-capped peaks. From here we start to descend past spectacular views, llamas and lagoons. After a full day of hiking, we emerge into the Lares Valley, to a fitting reward for a long, hard hike: a campsite set up right next to a natural hot spring! The Lares hot springs are our favorite place in the world to arrive after a tough day, and you’ve just done two! Sitting in the hot, medicinal water looking up at the stars tonight will make it all more than worthwhile, and is an experience you’ll never forget.
Day 4: One Step Closer
This morning we’ll drive and hike towards a river canyon to the village of Totora for lunch. The remainder of the day includes a scenic drive and train ride to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu mountain. Here we’ll enjoy a hot shower and a gourmet dinner- an early night in preparation for the sunrise at Machu Picchu!
Day 5: The Grand Finale
An early start rewards us with sunrise at Machu Picchu – a peak moment for anyone. A spectacular stone city surrounded by incredibly steep, incredibly green mountains, Machu Picchu needs no introduction and is deservedly one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Your trip leader will take you on a guided tour – a necessary start to orient you in this massive site – then you’ll have plenty of time to explore the site and some of the surrounding peaks on your own before we catch the train back to Cusco.
Day 6: The End of the Journey
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end...or do they! Although we head home today, the sights and experiences from Peru will be forever a part of your life!

I would recommend BTM for any trip you and your friends want to go on, or to any organization interested in planning a trip... especially if you are interested in "getting out there" and not just stopping at the common tourist spots everyone goes to.

This was hands-down one of the the most exciting, rewarding, and memorable trips I've ever been on! The peace of mind to know that I didn't have to worry about anything was worth every penny. All I had to do was show up. Cody and Lystina took it from there. No stress, no anxiety, no rushing around or wasting time trying to find an activity or a place to eat. I got to sit back, relax, and experience a whole new world that was far beyond my map.

Since I've been back I have recommended these trips to so many people because this company creates these remarkable journeys that allow people to experience the world in a unique way. I can't wait to go on my next expedition with Beyond the Map!
