Day 1. Welcome to Pennsylvania!

Arrive to our beautiful hidden cabin in the hills of Pennsylvania. This will be our base camp for the evening so that we can organize our gear, share any last minute tips and distribute items between our packs. Become acquainted with the surrounding trails and scenery until dinner. Over dinner, we will have a round of introductions and a brief orientation to the adventures ahead. Spend the evening relaxing in a hammock or on the front porch rocking chairs. Accommodations: mountain cabin

Day 2: Life in a Backpack

Today we set out into the wilderness for the next four days. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail, generally known as the Appalachian Trail or simply the AT, is a marked hiking trail in the eastern United States extending between Springer Mountain in Georgia and Mount Katahdin in Maine. It is approximately 2,184 miles long and is one of the premier long backpacking trails in the United States. Each day we will average 10-15 miles of hiking. Today we cross through local state parks that contain stunning rock formations and a thick forest canopy. Accommodations: AT shelter or tent

Day 3: Immersed in Nature

Awaken to the symphony of the forest as we ease into our second day of life on the trail. After a hearty breakfast, we will head out into the wilderness with everything we need to survive on our backs. Today you are sure to think at least once "how do people hike this ENTIRE trail!" ...that's perfectly acceptable to think- we've all been there! The majority of the trail is in wilderness, although some portions traverse towns, roads and cross-rivers. Today we will pass through a small colonial town to indulge in some ice cream! Accommodations: shelter or tent

Day 4: Crossing the AT Halfway Point

The Appalachian Trail will test you both mentally and physically. Crossing 14 states, the AT passes through some of the most rugged terrain on the east coast. To finish the entire trail, most people hike for 3-5 continuous months, however, even after a few days you may be feeling that life seems more natural on the trail, even normal maybe! This is our last night sleeping on the trail. Enjoy it and take in the beauty of your surroundings. Accommodations: shelter or tent

Day 6: The End of the Journey

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end...or so they say. Whether you hike 50 miles or 2,000, the AT stays with you, as do the experience and friendships made. Today we shuttle back to the airport or to our cars. Accommodations: your own bed!

Day 5: Back to Civilization

This morning we finish the hike with an easier morning down off the mountain and along the roaring Potomac River. At the end of the journey, you would have crossed three states and covered over 50 miles on the trail. Harpers Ferry, WV is the terminus for our section of the hike. Enjoy the afternoon exploring this colonial town or visiting the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Headquarters that is considered a major milestone for those thru-hiking the AT. A final group dinner and a good nights rest is in order before departing tomorrow. Accommodations: hotel

I would recommend BTM for any trip you and your friends want to go on, or to any organization interested in planning a trip... especially if you are interested in "getting out there" and not just stopping at the common tourist spots everyone goes to.

This was hands-down one of the the most exciting, rewarding, and memorable trips I've ever been on! The peace of mind to know that I didn't have to worry about anything was worth every penny. All I had to do was show up. Cody and Lystina took it from there. No stress, no anxiety, no rushing around or wasting time trying to find an activity or a place to eat. I got to sit back, relax, and experience a whole new world that was far beyond my map.

Since I've been back I have recommended these trips to so many people because this company creates these remarkable journeys that allow people to experience the world in a unique way. I can't wait to go on my next expedition with Beyond the Map!
